Longtime readers of my work understand that I follow the most interesting tech patterns on the edge of mass adoption.
These patterns are experiencing exponential development and producing incredible opportunities for investors. 5G Devices Our new 5G (fifth-generation) cordless networks are a subject I've been covering for years now.
Even though the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted supply chains in 2015, a remarkable 250 million 5G-enabled gadgets were still sold. Specifically in the second quarter, there were supply chain disturbances, manufacturing delays, and work blockages. And all of this eventually caused Apple delaying the release of the 5G-enabled i, Phone 12 by two months.
And that demand is now going to be pressed into 2021. I forecast that more than 500 million 5G devices will be shipped in 2021.
Stage 3 of 5G When I've spoken about 5G in the past, I have actually described its three various phases. In Phase One, the facilities of these new networks is built out, including all the brand-new towers and fiber-optic electrical wiring that 5G will require. In Stage 2, 5G devices go on sale.
And in Phase Three, 5G services begin to be offered. That's when we begin to see applications running on 5G networks. And my second 5G forecast for 2021 is that we will start Phase 3 by this summer.
More and more customers will go out to purchase a 5G phone to gain access to these applications. 5G is going to open up a suite of extraordinary applications: self-driving cars and trucks, the Internet of Things, robotic surgical treatment, and more.
